I have been in the art world for my whole career. Starting out as a graphic designer specializing in retail and package design. For over 30 years I have run Preslicka Studio designing for many local and international companies including: General Mills, Hormel, 3M, International Dairy Queen, Post Brands and many more. Somewhere around 15 years ago I began painting murals. Much of my work was done in schools and libraries with over 100 painted in the upper midwest. I created a program to paint murals with students giving them meaningful and creative participation.
I have always created personal art in the form of studio and plein air painting. I started plein air painting as a way to study nature as I was interested in painting wildlife for prints and stamps. After painting out side I fell in love with plein air and forgot about the wildlife. I am a founding member of Outdoor Painters of Minnesota and past president.
I love the challenge of trying to capture a scene on location. My paintings range from small town scenes to north shore and inland forests.
I never choose a scene to paint because I think it will sell. I look for a composition that has some narrative. It tells a story or asks a question. I see beauty not in what is "pretty" but I composition, color and light.
Though many of my paintings are plein air I also work on larger studio paintings. These usually are my reflections on my outdoor painting experience and rarely an enlargement of a plein air piece. They are a compilation of my plein air experiences. All have a familiar feel, like you have probably been there.
